YOUR COMMENTS / VIEWS

Aim of having the site is

- To connect all those who have roots in the village - Kandhala Jattan.

- To have a forum to share your views on the village and in the bargain see if we all can do something worthwhile towards the upliftment of the village.

Let us all join in and share our thoughts.

I have received a mail from one of NRI of our village. Here is it :-

"Satsariakal. My name is Amarjit S Dhaliwal, son of Bhulla Singh Godia, presently I live in Canada. I was born in Kandhala Jattan and grew up there while playing in different grounds and streets. I remember most of those beautiful memories from the time my brain started storing them. That is the main reason I visit my village and talk to my villagers every night in my dreams. I miss them both. I remember all of my teachers from 1st class to tenth whose contributions I can never forget.

I want my village to progress and villagers to prosper. That can be done by providing education to everyone in general and poor in particular. I have explicitly understood that education is one’s passport to prosperity and fast forward button to progress. It helps us to see things/issues from different perspectives.

I want my villagers to remain healthy and use preventive measure rather than corrective/fixing methods. There is a big problem of drugs in our village.Something must be done to curb that. Otherwise, those days are notaway when our daughters-in-law become widow during their prime youth.

Moreover, I want my villagers to remember the preaching of Guru Nanak who advised us to care and share, help others who need it most. We must take care of sick, poor, orphans, disadvantages and disables. We must also do something to convert “CHAPARS (ਛਪੜ)” the pond (Our forefather dug them to store water), that can be converted to make beautiful parks where people can sit and enjoy. We need to set up speed breakers for small children to cross the road to go to schools.

We, especially foreigners, must join together to change the fate of our village. Though we cannot fix each and every issue, yet we can make a difference. Anyone interested to discuss further can e-mail me at adhaliwal@shaw.ca."

You all can also pen your thoughts.

Our village has numerous problems. Village pond is one. Over the period of time it has got filled with muck and needs cleaning. In fact Government has a plan and number of villages have made use of the offer. Government gives grant to clean up ponds and develop it into fisheries farm or use for water harvesting. Someone has to explore this option. The pond can be cleaned and converted into a fish pond where it can be self sustaining through earnings from fishes. Someone can be given the contact for that. Village Punchayat should think about it.

Let us have views of you all.

YOUR RESPONSE

. I request you all send your comments and views on the email addresses as given in the blog.Following is the response from one of you :-

Dear Friend,
My name is Nirmal Singh Kandhalvi.I was born and brought up at Kandhala Jattan. In 1977, I migrated to the UK. I was overjoyed to see your blog. It is a marvellous thing to do. Lately, I visited the Pind in February 2010. I love to go there. There were times I used to go unannounced.
Though, I have been living in England for over three decades but I always dream about my village. I bow my head to our teachers ie Mela Singh Head Master of Primary school, Headmaster Lal Singh, Panjabi teacher Giani Lal Singh, Hindi teacher Pyare Lal, Drawing teacher Niranjan Singh and so on, whose hard work made us able to teach the English people. I am indebted to my teachers. I still remember that how Giani Lal Singh made me a good speaker, by removing all nervousness from my mind.
In my opinion, groupism in every village has done a huge damage, our Pind is not an exception. I still think, if the people of our village get united, then all the NRIs living abroad from this village can change the whole map of the village especially the Chhappar is a curse for the Pind.
I make a humble request to Baba Bishan Singh Ji to give this strenghth to the people of Kandhala Jattan to sit together and think about the betterment of the Pind.
Keep up the good work

Nirmal Singh Kandhalvi

BABA BISHAN SINGH BARSI 2010

Last Basri of Baba Bishan Singh was celebrated with traditional devotion and reverence. There were 12 Akhand Paths going on simultaneously and it all culminated on 29 October 2010. Langar was served and at night Diwan was organised where Ragis, Dhadi and Kavishar Jathas participated. Though Hazoori Ragi Sarabjit Singh was mentioned in leaflets, but he was not present. Instead another young Hazoori Raagi came. Seating arrangements for public were not comfortable and there was not much attendance at night Diwan. Audio system was also not upto the mark. In fact recollecting old times when there was too much of JOSH in natives for the occasion - was somewhat lacking. Number of NRIs were present. Of late too much has been wasted in pump and show and display of wealth rather than showing reverence to the Eternal Guru. Gone are the days when people used to rush to Gurduwara when recital of Salok of Bhagat Kabir and Baba Frid began before Bhog of Akhand Path and sit for long hours listening to Gurbani.

Latest news - Death of S Jagir Singh

Sad to inform that S Jagir Singh (Sham-e Totiyan da - brother of Giani Karam Singh) recently died. I remember him as a very daring and lively person. He was a good Kabaddi player during his times. In his prime age he used to be the only volunteer to climb and change cloth of Nishan Sahib at Baba Bishan Singh Gurudwara. An hard working farmer who earned living be plying cart and tilling fields by taking on rent / contact. He is survived by his son (he had two sons - one died earlier due to excessive drinking). He will be missed by all old timers.

THE VILLAGE

The village Kandhala Jattan is located on Hoshiarpur-Tanda Road and approximately 7 KM away from Tanda. It is one of the largest villages of Hoshiarpur District. Once upon a time it was leading village of the area. It was one of the first villages to be declared as Model Village. There were number of eminent persons who brought name and fame to the village. Amongst the freedom fighters there were people who joined Ajad Hind Fauj - one of them being Didar Singh (Bhajnia - lehindi patti). Jathedar Banta Singh joined Congress party and was imprisoned by Britishers. He was later awarded 'Tamar Patra'.

LATEST NEWS

Here are some latest news of the village.

Hola Mahalla Langar at Saran Kandhala Jattan - 01 March 2010

These are the photographs of founder of Saran and the stone which gives the date when the Saran was made.

This year Holla Mohalla Langar at Saran appeared to be a dull event compared to what used to happen in past years. Some of the photographs testify this. Though there were eleven Akhand Paths carrying on concurrently but there was none to sit and listen.

It was also seen that there was hardly any Sangat sitting and having Langar. Gone are the days when all buses used to be stopped and all passengers used to have Langer in complete reverence. In fact the actual Saran is hardly visible in the maze of shops which have totally eclipsed the facade of the main building.

Crime Scene

Recently in a violent clash Lal Chand S/o Late Shankar Lal (Khatri) got killed. As per villagers he went to boys of Pandits and asked for money due to him on account of sale of liqour. The arguments led to fight. He suffered a severe blow on his head and went into coma. He underwent treatment at Jalandhar for about seven days. He later died there. The boys involved in fight have gone missing. It was alleged that son of Nai was also involved whose father has been picked up by police.

Untimely death

a young boy - Son of Mahinga Singh, Panch of the village S/o Late S Didar Singh (Bhajnia) died in a road accident while going on a motor cycle to Hoshiarpur, near Bulhowal. He had a head on collision. He and the pillon rider, another boy boy from the village died on the spot. He was about 20 years of age. Another son of Mahinga Singh is in Italy (some foreign country).
